2010-2011 AQHA/NHSRA
HORSE OF THE YEAR CRITERIA

1. Official Nomination forms may be obtained by contacting your state/province secretary or contacting the NHSRA Office.
2. Form must be filled out completely for each horse contestant is nominating and either mailed or FAX’d to the NHSRA Office.
3. Any questions concerning the AQHA/NHSRA Horse of the Year should be referred to the NHSRA National Office.
4. AQHA/NHSRA State/Provincial Boy’s and Girl’s Horse of the Year winners will receive an award in recognition of the top American Quarter Horse in that state/province.
5. Each state/provincial winner will also be eligible to compete for the Boy’s and Girl’s National AQHA/NHSRA Horse of the Year at the NHSFR.
RULES:
1. Nominated horse(s) must be a registered American Quarter Horse by the postmarked nomination deadline of March 1, 2011. All ownership information and transfers with AQHA must be current by the nomination deadline.  LATE NOMINATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AND THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. A March 2 (or later) postmark/fax is ineligible. All faxes will be date stamped by NHSRA personnel. March 1, 2011 is the fax deadline.
2. Nominations will only be accepted if completed and signed by both the NHSRA Member and the listed owner on AQHA papers. “Owner” is defined by one of the following: NHSRA Member, parent(s), sibling(s) or grandparent(s).
3. Both the listed owner on AQHA papers and the nominating NHSRA member must be a current AQHA member through August 1, 2011. Owners should call AQHA to verify membership and ownership status. If the owner’s AQHA membership expires between March 1, 2011 and July 30, 2011, please renew the membership no later than March 1, 2011 to keep your membership current.
4. The earliest received nomination form will break any ties.
5. A nominated horse can only earn points from a single rider at the state/province finals and national finals. No accumulative points will be awarded. If more than one immediate family member will be riding the horse, then each NHSRA member must nominate the same horse to be eligible.
6. Nominated horses used in the queen contest will earn points based on the contestant’s placing in the Horsemanship category only and not the overall queen contest placing.
7. It is the member’s responsibility to make certain that the State/Province Secretary is notified at the State/Province Finals which nominated horse they are competing on to be eligible to earn points. Failure to do so could prevent your horse from earning points.
