Celebrate the past and ride into the future . . .
Here’s to the end of an incredible 2023. Looking back, this year started with a bang thanks to our 2022-23 NHSRA President, Rodney Glenn. Our MidWinter Meeting in Oklahoma in January was one for the books. It had great attendance, outstanding discussion, remarkable receptions and a concert from Easton Corbin.
As the year progressed the decisions made at Mid-Winter began to be put into motion. Did you know there were new things added to this year’s NJHFR & NHSFR? Th ose items were presented by the kids and adults that attended the Mid-Winter and wanted to see change for the association. Th ree big things that happened this year were awarding CASH to every world champion in Junior High & High School, a 75th Celebration (including a concert kickoff party) and a launch of the NHSRA Alumni Program!
The NJHFR in Perry, Georgia, was a hot one! Thankfully we were indoors and the competition was electric. We saw great numbers, fast times and high scores. The 75th NHSFR in Gillette, Wyoming, was one for the record books. We had the most contestants in attendance in the history of the NHSRA. We paid out the most money in the history of the NHSRA and, even better, we got to celebrate this great event being around for 75 years!
Of course, none of that would have been possible without the help of our amazing partners and sponsors. With their continuous support, the NHSRA is able to do fun activities, pay out great money, and has awarded thousands of scholarships. Did you know that some of our partners have been around for over 40 years? Talk about a match made in heaven. We are truly grateful for the innovation and goals they set for us and we are always thankful for what they do for this association. So, if you get the chance, remember to always look around at the banners hanging in the arena and thank those people and companies for supporting the events you attend and helping the future of rodeo grow.
As we look back on this record-setting year, let’s give thanks to our national directors, secretaries, stock contractors, sponsors, personnel and all the volunteers that continue to drive this association into the future.
Let’s pull our hat down tight and enjoy the ride,
Gary Hawkes
